CNG Diesel Blend

CNG Diesel Blend Dual Fuel system

CNG is stored under pressure in the tank. The tank contains a tank valve with a mechanical and electromagnetic shut-off valve. In addition, a number of safety provisions are integrated in the tank valve which provide safe storage of the CNG.

The manometer is mounted between tank and pressure regulator and shows an analogue display of the (tank) pressure. Based on the tank pressure, it also sends an electrical signal to the fuel switch with fuel level display. LEDs are used to inform the driver about the current fuel level.

When CNG mode is selected, the shut-off valves will be activated. By activating the shut-off valves, CNG can flow to the pressure regulator. A filter is installed at the inlet of the pressure regulator, which filters the CNG. The pressure regulator will reduce the pressure and adjust it to a fixed differential pressure (delta pressure). To maintain a constant temperature and pressure, the regulator is connected to the engine coolant system. CNG is sequentially injected into the inlet manifold by the gas injectors. The filter unit is placed between reducer and injectors. It filters the CNG to prevent contamination of the gas injectors. A combined pressure/ temperature sensor is installed in the filter unit. This combined sensor measures the gas temperature and system pressure. There is also a MAP sensor placed in the intake manifold. The system pressure minus the intake manifold pressure (MAP) is the differential pressure [delta pressure] over the injector. These signals are processed by the Diesel Blend computer to obtain the proper mixture correction.

During cold start the engine will run on diesel for a while, before switching to CNG. The switch-over time is calculated by the Diesel Blend computer and also depends on engine temperature.

The Diesel Blend system can be diagnosed by using the Diesel Blend diagnostic program. Any trouble codes present can be read and deleted. It is also possible to read-out parameters and program calibration parameters while calibrating the system.
